Hay Fever and Allergies
About 1 in 5 people in Australia and New Zealand are affected by hay fever at some time in their lives. (Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy)
Hay fever (otherwise known as Allergic Rhinitis) is an allergic disorder characterized by an exaggerated immune response to pollen grains and other substances. The pollen that causes hay fever varies between individuals from region to region. However, it is possible to suffer from hay fever throughout the year.
Symptoms of hay fever include a runny/itchy or congested nose, sneezing and itchy/watery eyes. Whilst some of these symptoms may be similar to those caused by infections (such as colds and flu), allergy symptoms tend to persist unless treated.
How can Salt Therapy help?
When a hay fever or allergy sufferer sits in the salt rooms they are exposed to a dry salt aerosol. The size of the microscopic salt particles enables it to be inhaled through the nose, into the sinuses and deep into the lungs.
As a natural antihistamine, salt can help alleviate the allergy and reduce irritation.
The microscopic salt particles draw out inflammation, the sodium chloride changes the consistency of mucous so that it is thinner and less sticky resulting in the breakup of congestion to relieve hay fever and other allergy symptoms such as a runny nose and itchy throat.

Success Stories from our Clients
Before I started salt therapy, my sinus area would get a lot of pressure and would always wake up very blocked at the back of throat, nose etc. Change of seasons, hayfever season and from hot to cold would all aggravate the problem.
Since starting sessions I have noticed a drastic improvement and if I get up all blocked up it instantly clears up and drains straight away!…
It’s amazing and it has even helped my general wellbeing and could of times I have felt like I was getting a cold and it didn’t take hold which was fantastic.
I also sleep better and my husband even noticed after my second session that I was breathing so much better during the night. I love coming to my salt therapy sessions as I feel so relaxed and they really make me feel calm.
We joined Salts of the Earth to help my son’s hay fever and allergy symptoms. Prior to starting he was needing anti-histamines several mornings a week before school. After 1 session, the next morning, he was sniff, sneeze and itchy eye free. I couldn’t believe it!! We try to come together at least twice per week to maintain this status, It’s a lovely thing to do together-I love it too.
Salt therapy is a complementary therapy, designed to be used in conjunction with conventional medicine. Like many aspects of a healthy lifestyle, consistency is key and salt therapy should be viewed as an ongoing therapy to be utilised as part of your overall allergy and hay fever treatment. We always recommend clients speak with their GP about the use of salt therapy.
