Check in with your resolutions

Check in with your resolutions

We’re a few weeks into the new year, and you know what that means. Our resolutions are out the window. Gone. Zip. Na-da. It’s so easy to make all those promises to yourself on New Year’s Eve, isn’t it? This year, I WILL run a half-marathon! I WILL clean out the old laundry cupboard! I WILL take better care of myself! And yet, just a few weeks later, we’re back to rushing around, forgetting to take time out for ourselves. So here’s a few quick tips to make sure you make this year as healthy and happy as it can be.

1. Stretch.
If your resolution was to do more exercise, this is a great way to start. First thing in the morning, chuck on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, find a bit of space on the carpet, and stretch that spine out. We’re not talking full-blown yoga salutes to the sun, just some niiiiice gentle bends, like when a cat wakes up from a nap. It might, MIGHT even give you the energy to do a workout afterwards. But, you know. Baby steps.

2. Socialise.
Did you resolve to do something OTHER than watch Netflix on the couch this year? Get out more, perhaps? See your friends more regularly? Throw glorious dinner parties that make the gossip column of the newspaper? Maybe not. But if you were aiming to keep in touch more and you already have the I-don’t-have-enough-time-to-do-anything-social feels, then try making a few phone calls. Just a ten minute chat to a friend you haven’t seen in a while might make you feel more social already. And the best bit? You can do it from the couch with no pants on…

3. Stillness.
How’s your mind? Full of cobwebs and dustmites? Or rolling at a thousand miles per hour? Maybe it’s time to take a few deep breaths, and sit still for a minute. If ‘meditation’ is too much of a hippy word for you, then stay calm – just think about your breathing. You can even concentrate on breathing in one nostril and out the other. The stillness can reset your mind and lower your stress levels dramatically. High-five.

4. Salts.
Last, but certainly not least, don’t forget to keep up with your salt therapy. Taking the time to sit in that massage chair, breathing the salty air into your lungs will do wonders for your body, your skin and your mind. And if you stretch, bring a friend and do some heavy-breathing while in the salt rooms, you’ll kick four resolutions off at once! BONUS.

Happy 2016, salty friends.
